What's New As I was walking through the rain around Seattle this morning watching the sun come up, I had to smile. I realized how blessed I am getting to travel all over North America and sing to so many different communities. Thank you God. I just returned from an amazing weekend in Dallas where I have been doing some concerts with the recently Doctored Michael Gott. Congratulations Dr. Gott. Now generally I am a vocalist who tries to just sing and not talk too much. I find that when we singers talk we sometimes make these absolute statements and really enjoy what I refer to as the “blah blah blah.....” See I feel that if I can write a song well enough, then I don't have to explain it. If I have preface the song with “when I wrote this song I was.....BLAH BLAH BLAH” then I should probably start over again. Besides, I am learning that people get exactly what they need from a song. It is my job to simply show up, stand in front of the mic and then get out of the way and let spirit do the work. “It is not I but the spirit within who does these things I see before me” as the chant from Erin McGaughan (Music Director and amazing singer-songwriter from Seattle Unity) states. With all that said though, and back to my point, I have been letting myself talk and tell some funny stories at the concerts. This is evolving into a really fun event with lots of laughter and a few tears. I have always known that God is in the laughter. There are few sounds that remind me more of God's joy than the sound of a child laughing. So if you get the chance to come and share some laughter, please do. My next concert will be at the Seattle Center for Spiritual Living on June 3. It will be an afternoon concert after the services and will be chock full or songs from all three CDs and also some from the new projects that I am working on. More about those projects. I have two new CDs that I am working on. The first is going to be much like “From Within” featuring many cover songs that, when I perform them, people ask “which CD is that one on?” Songs like “You Raise Me Up,” Susan Bardsley's “Days Pass” and it would not be a Stefan Mitchell CD without a song from the amazing Daniel Nahmod “Celebrate Your Life Today.” I start tracking in May and plan on having that disc available in September. The next project is going to feature Jonathan Kingham again. I have been writing songs for the past year getting ready to record another CD with him. This one will be more in the style of “Perfect Mystery.” Finally, I am in the middle of taking the new Foundations
class called “Beyond Limits,” which is being taught by the
Rev. Dr. Kathianne Lewis (hurray!). What a great time I am having with
the 250 other folks taking the class. And the small groups are such a
treat. Nice to have a group of people knowing together the truth of who
and what we are, why we are here, and where we came from. Namaste Stefan
